Having fun playing around with more traditional mediums. This time I wanted to take another whack at Rouge the Bat. She’s a character I really wanted to give a proper go at. Also, I’ve done so much bloody pixel-art animation of her, it just felt weird that I hadn’t tried drawing her properly yet. Yes, I know I got the coloring wrong on her chest plate. It’s traditional art though, I can’t exactly lift the marker pigment off of the page once it’s down.

It was Bat Appreciation Day over on Twitter so I did up a little set of my own under-appreciated bat, Florence.

Why are you doing this to poor Florence? She may look creepy but she’s a good, honest girl!

Of all my characters, Florence is probably the most moderate of them. She may look extreme but her tastes are pretty simple.

Yeah, it is super racist to make assumptions about anthros based on stereotypes of the animals with which they share heritage.

You’re right, I have come up with a back story for her. Florence is a young student at the local University. She lives in the city with a rather generous scholarship in Anthropology. Though even with the scholarship, she has to make a little extra scratch on the side so she works at the Occult shop with Ri. They don’t work together very often since the shop usually only has one staff on at a time but they can get along.

All that pagan stuff doesn’t really appeal to her spiritually but she does find it fascinating from an academic perspective. But hey, when you’re a bat with a creepy vibe, it’s easy to get work at an occult shop and she was glad to have the easy work which lets her do school work during her shift.

Gotta love the classic creepy! Unfortunately, Florence can’t really get her hair to stand up like that so she’s gotta wear it down. -TB
