I DID see that movie! I also saw the live action adaptation of Tank Girl just two years earlier (1995) that also included cringe-worthy, face-painted kangaroo people. And it’s all so ironic that these characters appeared years after the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film (1990) and the Dinosaurs TV Show (1991-1994) which looked light years better in comparison. Hell, Aliens was made in 1986 and visually it was outstanding! Personally, I miss seeing animatronics and puppets in films. Sure, there’s examples of when it goes bad but when it goes well, you can have incredible results! That real sweat spot is when traditional and CGI come together. Jurrasic Park (1993) still looks incredible (though some of the long shots are little rough but hey, it was the 90s!) and the far more modern Attack the Block (2011) showed what carefully crafted traditional with a slight CGI enhancement can do even on a microscopic budget. #BringBackPuppets
Ever saw "Warriors Of Virtue"? Omitting the quality of the movie, to me it explain perfectly why you should use CGI, puppets (even if they look like Ninja Turtles) or at least well done masks for furry characters instead of actors with make-up. Damn cringe n' creepy kangaroos...
